‘In a little side path leading out of Blackstock Lane was the Sluice House or Eel Pie House, one of those many tea gardens and refreshment places to which the cockneys delighted to journey for dancing, frolicking, and the consumption of eel pies, for which the establishment had a world-renowned reputation.’
