This is the preparatory drawing for one of the most delightful and celebrated views of an early nineteenth-century London Square. It was among the first of a series of new views that emphasise the much-vaunted verdant character of these agreeable retreats. It also portrays truthfully the robust vitality of the square and its inhabitants and visitors.
